Ronnie Brown: Why Signing One-Year Deal with Philadelphia Eagles Works

The Philadelphia Eagles surprised everyone once again Tuesday by signing running back Ronnie Brown to a one-year deal.

The Eagles have been very active this offseason, and adding Brown to serve as a backup running back is a good move.

It may not have been the best situation for Brown, but it definitely works out well.

In my opinion, Brown should have signed with the Baltimore Ravens. He would have seen much more play time, especially near the goal line.

The Ravens dumped Willis McGahee, which means they need a new backup for Ray Rice. Brown would have been a great fit there, and if Rice struggled then Brown would have shined.

Now, Brown is the backup to LeSean McCoy, who is very unlikely to falter in 2011.

However, it's still a great pickup by the Eagles, and a good place for Brown to play. They needed a solid back, and Brown will provide just that.

Brown was the starter for the Miami Dolphins, but he wasn't a feature back. He rushed for 734 yards on 200 attempts, but he only scored five touchdowns.

He won't get anywhere close to that amount of carries, but he will still be productive. The 29-year-old running back will serve as excellent insurance for McCoy. Should something happen to McCoy, the Eagles can feel good knowing they have a solid backup.

Brown is a bruiser, and he will be just fine in Philadelphia. There is also the chance the Eagles utilize Brown is a wildcat type of formation. He ran it with Miami, and he can do the same for the Eagles.

After all, it is very affective in the red zone, especially in goal line situations.

Philadelphia has a ton of speed on their offense, and by adding Brown they are loaded with offensive weapons.

You don't always land in the best of situations. That's life and you have to roll with it. Brown will make things work in Philadelphia.
