NFL Preseason Schedule 2011: Why Redskins Rex Grossman Will Win Starting Spot

The Washington Redskins have two bad options at QB and go into the season already behind the eight ball because of it.

Somebody has to win the battle of mediocre QBs and I think it will end up being Rex Grossman.

For all of the bad things said about Grossman, you can't deny the fact he has played in a Super Bowl before.

Matt Ryan, Tony Romo, Michael Vick, Phillip Rivers, Carson Palmer and Joe Flacco can't make the same claim.

So the ability is there and it's just a matter of putting it all together. Entering his ninth season in the league, he feels as if the previous experiences in his career have made him mentally stronger and more than capable of leading another team:

I?m looking at this to spark the second half of my career, and [to] really take charge of this team and this offense and be extremely productive and ultimately win a world championship.

He caught some heat from the media after proclaiming that the Redskins were going to win the NFC East. On paper they are the worst team in the division and a big part of that is their lack of options at QB.

John Beck is currently No. 2 on the depth chart and is Grossman's main competition. He has played in a grand total of five games with four starts in his NFL career and coughed up the ball eight times over that span.

Grossman turned the ball over eight times himself in four starts with the 'Skins last season. So why does he have the advantage?

Because of his familiarity with the system and his arm. While not very accurate, he has a cannon and should be able to create some good chemistry with Santana Moss down the field. His 1-2 record as a starter isn't incredible, but both losses were by a field goal.

He has the familiarity of the system and has played in 36 more games than Beck. That should be enough.

He gives them the best chance to win and will get a chance to backup his bold statement.
