PGA Championship 2011: PGA Is Now Most Exciting Major

The past two years have proven that the PGA is now the most exciting Major on the schedule. While it is widely regarded as the least glamorous of the majors, it is now clearly the best one to watch.

It comes near the end of the year, and that allows golfers to have their swings grooved, which leaves them performing in top form. With the deep talent pools that now rule golf, this leaves a bevy of contenders performing at an amazingly high level. While it is nearly impossible to predict who will win the tournament it is easy to predict that it will be exciting.

The courses for the PGA are difficult, but not so difficult that players can't approach double digits under par, and?in the process?provide plenty of amazing shots for viewers to marvel. This allows for high drama played out at the highest of levels.

The 2010 and 2011 PGA turned out to be the most memorable events on the schedule. Both ended in a playoff after an amazing amount of Sunday drama.

In 2010, Matin Kaymer edged out Bubba Watson in a playoff. However, the most memorable moment of that tournament came before the playoff when Dustin Johnson made an amazing play deep from the gallery on the 18th hole. The shot seemingly saved his spot in what looked like it would be a three-man playoff.

That was not to be. It was ruled that Johnson hit that shot from gallery out of a bunker and Johnson had grounded his club.

Amazingly, the 2011 PGA Championship not only matched that drama, but surpassed it.

Keegan Bradley's amazing comeback provided all the drama needed for this one. Bradley dropped four strokes back after chipping into the water on No. 15. At that point, it seemed like his tournament run was over. With just three difficult holes to play it seemed unlikely that a rookie would be able to bounce back. But bounce back he did.

Bradley became just the third player all tournament to card back-to-back birdies on No. 16 and 17. And when Jason Dufner recorded two bogeys on the challenging final four holes, we had another playoff.

Bradley then capped off the tournament with an impressive 1-under on the final three holes. And he showed everyone that this is the one tournament you don't want to miss.
