Brad Childress, the Vikings head coach from 2006 until halfway through last season, stopped by the NFL Network yesterday to discuss his time running the ship in Minnesota. Most notable were his comments about Randy Moss's four-game stint with the Vikings last season.
Why did it only last four games? According to Chilly, because of Moss and his figurative regurgitation all over the team's locker room. From Elliot Harrison at NFL.com:
"[Moss] called me and said, 'I can't wait, I can't wait. I feel like I'm coming home again,'" Childress recalls.
Despite Moss' reputation for loafing and being a distraction, Childress felt Moss would be more mature with 12 seasons under his belt. He thought Moss would not be a distraction in the locker room.
Uh, not so much.
"We had good guys, by and large," Childress said, "[but Moss] walked in the locker room and vomited on it."
Interesting. I'd love to hear more details about Moss's specific behavior that warrants comparison to puking all over the place. Part of me feels like the coach is responsible in that situation, too -- if it's happening, he's got to nip it in the bud and find a way to keep it from infecting the rest of the team.
I'm sure Randy Moss has his own version of the way things went down in Minnesota. In all likelihood, that team was going to bottom out with or without Moss.
If you're looking for a place to point the finger of blame, you can point to the fact that Moss was quickly shipped out of town. Then again, you could do the exact same thing with Childress. Both guys probably could've handled things better.
