You might think that a tenure of 13 years on a soap -- during which you literally grew up before the public's eyes from a vulnerable teenager to anxious mother of three -- would ensure you a role for life. Well, you'd be wrong.Soap veteran Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth) has been fired by 'General Hospital' in a story-line-dictated dismissal.
Of course, that doesn't lessen the sting for Herbst. She was a front-burner character for a long time and was only recently reduced to an after-thought, which is probably why the show is making this move. Reportedly, GH might have Franco (James Franco) kill Liz as an act of revenge on Jason (Steve Burton).
Killing Liz would be a radical move. She's a character who's attached to a lot of key families -- the Cassadines, the Spencers, the Webbers -- and she's connected to the hospital. If they keep her alive, she could always return sometime in the future.
A spokesperson for GH promises that Rebecca's exit will be exciting. "The next few months promise to be a 'not-to-miss' story for the character. We at ABC and GH wish Rebecca Herbst nothing but the best in her future endeavors."
