Confession On Manny Pacquiao: Help Me Figure Out The Man Who Keeps on Shocking!

Most journalism and reporting is meant to provide information or opinion to a targeted audience, keying readers in to the knowledge or insight a writer may posses.

Sure, most journalists tend to spend more time doing research and possibly have inside information, but we only have so much time, and our resources sometimes prove to be faulty when greatness proves us all wrong.

This is yet another piece on Manny Pacquiao’s astounding achievement and constant success in everything he puts his mind to. The difference is that I will confess something I don’t like to, and I hope it will not hurt my credibility as a writer.

Sure I talk about Manny and his attributes in and out of the ring. I can tell you why I think his wins should not be taken at face value, and why some of his late opposition was carefully hand-picked for a guaranteed success.

I can also explain why, in my opinion, his career, or maybe legacy is a better term, is artificially inflated via extracurricular activities. It would not take long for me to start dissecting his significantly flawed style and his obvious boxing imperfections.

Having said all that, I must confess: I have no idea what to think about Manny Pacquiao anymore. I am lost in the maze of everything that has happened to him throughout his career (in and out of the ring). I can no longer predict or speculate as accurately as I could before about Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming matches.

Is he really that good? Should he really be compared to Muhammad Ali (there is a whole army of people who take this route to sum up Pacquiao’s ultimate success)? Is there something we don’t know about his fights and his opposition? Why has it been so damn easy for him the past few years (I am in no way suggesting that he does not put in 100 percent to prepare for his fights)? And if it hasn’t, how can you explain vigorous domination he has been displaying against much bigger and undoubtedly stronger opponents (some of whom were seasoned legends)?

I know that there are plenty of readers out there who have the ability to look at fighters and their careers and accurately conclude, or better yet explain their success. I guess what I am trying to say is that lately, after unforgiving hours of thinking about, watching, and analyzing Manny and his whole career, I have come to a roadblock: somehow I cannot see all this success coming in such a direct and "honest to the public" way. Please do not, I repeat, do not, take this as me implying Manny’s "proposed" steroid use.

Back in the day, when people like Rocky Marciano, Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis took center stage, they were elite boxers. They fought tough opposition, and beside Marciano, most suffered multiple brutal losses. The old-timers fought true wars, and stuck to boxing day-in and day-out as it was everything that they could contemplate. Manny Pacquiao is an elite boxer, a high ranked government official, a businessman extraordinaire, movie actor, singer and apparently musician. How is he able to do all this, and provide jaw dropping athletic results?

Is Freddie Roach a magician? Is he a wizard who can take a man and mold him into an unrelenting boxing machine?

I think I know the answer to all those questions, but then again, our knowledge is only based on the present provided information. I am truly interested in hearing your opinion of his success. Is there something unfair going on in camp Pacquiao? Are boxing fans being wrapped around someone’s finger? None of there questions have come up back when Morales and Marquez gave Manny a fight to fight.

I know that this is a very unconventional piece, and I hope you don’t feel like you are wasting your time reading this and posting your reply. This, in a way, could be a great poll, and help define and draw a line whether Pacquiao’s success is as authentic as we all think it really is.

Thank you.
