National Signing Day 2011: Is FSU Losing Ground on Tim Jernigan?

Before the US Army All-American Bowl Jernigan had FSU on his list of interests, but they weren't a real possibility until he spoke further with Odell Haggins that week. Haggins has been his main recruiter and is doing everything he can to bring him to Tallahassee.

FSU made a very strong impression on him that weekend and left them as one of his front-runners. Most have been considering him a lock for LSU, but the relationship with Haggins is far beyond what any other coach has developed with him.

"I have the best relationship with Coach Haggins because I really trust him as a person, not just a coach," Jernigan said.

He recently returned from an official visit to Tallahassee, but not much has broken the surface on how well the trip went. However, according to his high school coach he has heard differently from other sources.

"I have heard that it went really well from other people," Columbia head coach Craig Howard said. "It sounds like he is highly interested in Florida State, looks like they are a front-runner."

There have been a few people stating that Florida has a legitimate chance of signing him. In fact, some recruiting analysts are saying that's where he will end up.

Now for my sake and all the 'Noles fans out there, I hope this doesn't occur. If it does, not only will we be losing out on a tremendous recruit, but he will also be leaving for the dark side.

Currently, the 'Noles only have one DT commit and that is 4-star Niles Lawrence-Stample, so adding another to the 2011 class like Jernigan is a high priority. Knowing that they are slim when it comes to the depth at the DT position has been a big reason why they are pushing to sign on more DTs for this year's class.

Elkino Watson is another viable option if Jernigan doesn't join FSU. If that ends up being the case, there is a strong chance Watson will sign with FSU. But if the sources are correct and FSU is truly a front-runner for him, then I'm feeling extremely confident that he will sign that dotted line on National Signing day to be a Florida State Seminole.

Buckle your seat belt and hold on to your hats everyone, because national signing day will be another wild ride for the 'Noles.
