There's a Derrick Williams video making the rounds of the sports world today, after the Arizona high-flyer delivered yet another thunderous alley-oop last night against the UCLA Bruins.
With just under 15 minutes to play in the first half, with the Wildcats up 9-8, Arizona's Kevin Parrom pulled down a rebound and sprinted up court on the fast break.
The sophomore swingman lobbed a high floating pass towards the basket, and Williams elevated to the square above the rim to grab the pass, finishing the dunk on his way down and sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Williams has looked like a stud all season long, averaging 19.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per game for the Wildcats, and routinely flashing this kind of athleticism all year.
The sophomore forward finished with 22 points and five rebounds in this one, as the Wildcats pulled out an 85-74 win. Arizona improved to 17-4 with the win and are currently second in the Pac-10 behind Washington.
With that kind of elevation and athleticism, could Williams be the next Blake Griffin? After all, the two exhibited the same kind of freakish skill in college, and Arizona's forward has been shooting up draft boards since announcing his arrival last season.
Williams isn't quite as big as Griffin, standing 6'8" and weighing in at 241 pounds. But he's got the same kind of explosiveness to the rim that the Clippers rookie sensation has shown this season in Los Angeles, and, at this point, could be looking at a potential lottery pick status when he comes out.
