Tiger Woods: Does Tiger Stand a Chance at Season's Final Two Majors?

Tiger Woods Still Ailing With British Open 16 Days Away

No matter what people say about how great or inspiring or thrilling Rory McIlroy's win at Congressional was earlier this month, the tournament still would have been better with Tiger Woods in the field.

Even if he didn't contend for the title, Tiger brings a level of excitement that no other golf in the sports does.

So with Woods still sidelined for this week's AT&T National at Aronimink it's impossible to look at his entry in the British Open as a lock. But let's say it is.

What can we hope for from Eldrick in the season's final two majors?

I think a lot.

Now Tiger played well at this course back in 2003, bouncing back from a mediocre three-over par at the halfway point to post a 69-71 and finish just two strokes behind the surprise winner Ben Curtis.

Certainly his game and health are in far worse shape than they were back then--he was coming off a Western Open triumph the week earlier. But don't discount the fact that Tiger hasn't played a complete round of tournament golf (he didn't finish that opening round in the Players) since the Masters in early April.

From both a physical and mental standpoint he should be very well rested and might not be as emotionally drained as the rest of the field, especially the (apparent) favorite Rory McIlroy whose life has been a whirlwind the past two weeks.

Still, I don't expect Tiger to really be in contention at this year's British. Maybe he'll make the cut and finish with a nice final round. But who knows.

I do expect a tremendous performance from him a month later at the PGA.....assuming he can stay healthy until then and not suffer any setbacks.

It's a tough course that I think won't yield too many low rounds so if Tiger can hang around par after the first two days he'll be in contention. And besides, at the last four PGA's he's appeared Woods has two wins and a runner-up.
