Philadelphia Flyers Will Take Dougie Hamilton at No. 8 in the 2011 NHL Draft
The Philadelphia Flyers must have been sitting on some deep-seeded animosity because they dismantled their core on Thursday by shipping out young stars Mike Richards and Jeff Carter.
Through those trades, the Flyers grabbed the No. 8 pick in the 2011 NHL Draft, and they will use it to help build their long-term future.
With the departure of all that offensive fire powerhouses, you would think the Flyers would go with a forward in the draft. Of course, contrary to what is supposed to happen, Philadelphia will take defenseman Dougie Hamilton.

NHL.com?s Take: He moves the puck well and makes good outlet passes, he does make good decisions with the puck, moves it very well out of his zone. He's a big guy, he'll take the body. ? He uses his size well. He can muscle people off the puck.
The Ontario Hockey League defender was one of the best in the league, and Hamilton is not a one-dimensional defender. There is a good chance that he could be the brightest prospect in this draft because of the immense growth potential he still has.
Not only can Hamilton be a shut-down defender that a team can lean on in penalty killing situations, he can be one of the most potent offensive treats in this draft.
Last season with the Niagara IceDogs, Hamilton was a defensive juggernaut and scored 58 points in just 67 games to be the best defensive prospect in North America.
