Miami, Notre Dame Players Banned From Mexico During Sun Bowl Stay

Miami and Notre Dame aren't letting their players cross the border into Mexico while staying in El Paso for the Sun Bowl.

Violence in Mexico has been high over the last year while the country is engaged in a war on drugs. El Paso borders the Mexican city of Ciudad Juarez, known as one of the world's most violent cities. Officials say over 3,000 have been killed this year alone with most crimes not being investigated.

Brian Kelly took the passports from his players in advance of the trip. Miami didn't bring passports either, and met with local law authority and the FBI to further discuss the dangers of traveling to Mexico. Fans from both schools have been urged to be cautious, as well.

"I think good common sense during these tough times ... you know, it's better suited to stay in a great city like El Paso," Kelly said. "More than anything else, our kids are just going to enjoy El Paso. It's got so much to offer. This is a great destination for us."
