Jenn Sterger's Lawyer: NFL Giving Brett Favre Preferential Treatment

With Tuesday serving as the apparent two-year anniversary since Brett Favre last allegedly contacted Jenn Sterger, making it difficult for Sterger's camp to file a lawsuit in New Jersey, Sterger's lawyer has accused the NFL of giving Favre preferential treatment.

"(Favre) is a high-profile athlete and a star in this league. He did do it or he didn't do it. There are lots of reasons to believe he is getting preferential treatment," Joseph Conway told Sports Business Daily.

Last week, the NFL announced it had still not come to a conclusion about whether Favre sent obscene pictures and text messages to Sterger when both were employed by the Jets. It had previously said that a decision was close.

With Brett Favre likely sidelined by a concussion for the remainder of what he's said will definitively be his final year, the window for the NFL to punish him is closing fast.

Favre reportedly last contacted Sterger on Dec. 28, 2008. In New Jersey, a sexual harassment lawsuit must be filed within two years. If Conway doesn't file a lawsuit by Tuesday, he risks the claim being dismissed.

Sterger's camp has said it will not sue if the NFL punishes Favre. It's also accused the NFL of not being entirely forthright with the investigation on a few occasions. Phil Reese, Sterger's agent, said more evidence than originally reported was handed over to the NFL. Sterger's camp has also threatened to go public with that evidence.
