We've seen videos of football players displaying their freakish athleticism by jumping out of swimming pools, leaping over 66-inch stacks of weights and bursting out of sand pits. It's gotten to the point where most of us wouldn't bat an eyelid if a draft prospect put up a clip of himself springing into a third-story window.
All those clips are impressive, but this one from longshot NFL prospect Nick Schrank goes a step further. Not only does the former high school standout show his athletic abilities, he also demonstrates an astonishing sense of balance:
I had to ice my ankle after watching that clip. It's probably hard enough to balance on one of those balls while on the ground, let alone jumping to it at a height of three feet.
Over email, Schrank told Shutdown Corner he filmed the clip earlier this week and nailed it on his fifth take. He fell once and missed landing on the ball the other times.
Schrank played middle linebacker at George Mason before an ACL injury derailed his career. Fearing that no school would take a flyer on a junior walk-on, he followed a girl (now his wife) to Radford University and played on the club team there. His improbable draft dreams were dashed last April, but he hasn't given up hope. Currently seeking a spot with the UFL's franchise in Virginia, Schrank continues to work out, operates a website that helps market himself and runs a T-shirt company with his grandmother in order to fund his training.
