2011 NFL Draft has Bears Selecting from Remaining Offensive Line Talent
The Bears showed one weakness pretty clearly in their matchup against the Green Bay Packers; they need a stronger offensive line to protect Jay Cutler. Adding a playmaking wide receiver would be nice as well, but Green and Jones are likely top ten picks, so that's not an option.
Luckily for the Bears, there should still be a couple of offensive tackles with first-round talent remaining in the draft. Mel Kiper has them going with Colorado's Nate Solder:
While it's a very good fit, there is no way that Solder is still there at the 29th pick; he has too much upside with that frame. Todd McShay, meanwhile, selected Mississippi State's Derek Sherrod in his latest mock:
Conversely, I don't think Sherrod is a first-round talent, and while he definitely will be available, I don't like the move. Then again, he may be the best talent there and will have to be selected.
A third option besides those two and Anthony Castonzo (who is a great fit but likely won't be available) is Ben Ijalana of Villanova. He's a bit raw since he's from an FCS school, but he's tough and should provide reliability to the offensive line.
