Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press told backup Lions safety C.C. Brown that he was ranked No. 90 on the list and gave him a chance to respond. Did he ever:
"I mean, I really don't give a [expletive] about it. It is what it is, man. [Expletive] that list. Whoever said it, you can tell them I said [expletive] their list and [expletive] them, too. [...]
"They're going to put who they want on that list. There's a bunch of guys out there that's so-called supposed to be the man, but they're sorry as [expletive], but they ain't going to put them on that list because that's probably one of their guys when they were coming out. To the guy that got that list, he can kiss my [expletive]. Quote that."
Wow. If C.C. Brown had shown that much fire on the football field, perhaps he wouldn't have lost his starting safety job on the Lions earlier this year. (Pearlman said the C.C. stands for "can't cover.")
Brown insists he doesn't care about being on the list, but six expletives, one offer of rear-kissing and the proclamation "I really don't give a [expletive] about it," suggests otherwise.
The list included a Super Bowl MVP (Larry Brown), a quarterback most famous for a fumble (Joe Pisarcik) and a slew of draft busts (Tim Couch, Akili Smith, Charles Rogers, Ryan Leaf, JaMarcus Russell) and was topped by quarterback Rusty Lisch, who played quarterback for the Cardinals and Bears in the early 1980s.
