Craig Brackins Likely Headed For D-League Assignment at Armor

The Sixers traded Willie Green and Jason Smith for Darius Songaila and Craig Brackins before the season started, based on Brackins' potential. It looks like they want to invest him a little more in the longterm rather than right away.

The Intelligencer reports that coach Doug Collins confirmed the Sixers will likely send Craig Brackins on assignment with the Springfield Armor to get him some playing time. The Sixers are relatively loaded in the frontcourt despite not having legitimate go-to players with Elton Brand's age and Marreese Speights. Sending Brackins down will give him time to get floor experience and work on his post defense.

The only concern is that the Armor already share an affiliate with the Knicks and the Nets (who will enter into a hybrid-system ownership of the Armor's basketball operations next season), so you've got a lot of hands in that pot, even though none of those hands are very active. The Armor don't run Collins' system, and they have little control over what happens up north. Still, the overall experience is a low-risk, high-reward proposition for the Sixers who can allow Brackins to season.
