Wayne Rooney Reportedly Wants Out of Manchester United

Filed under:

Wayne Rooney informed Manchester United that he is not planning on signing another contract and intends on seeking another team, according to a report in The Guardian.

Rooney has said in the past that he has no desire to play abroad and would like to remain in Manchester for the rest of his career.

Now available, Rooney is likely to draw interest from major forces such as Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Rooney's decision is based on serious differences with coach Alex Ferguson, according The Guardian. Ferguson and Rooney suffered a fall-out following tabloid allegations concerning the striker's private life, which included reports of an alleged relationship with a prostitute.

The pending divorce could also be stemming from a contract dispute.

United had been willing to make Rooney the highest earner at the club, with a weekly salary of £150,000 ($239,800). The club's chief executive, David Gill, had stated several times earlier this year that the matter would be resolved as soon as Rooney was back from the World Cup.
