Leonardo signed defender Andrea Ranocchia from Genova CFC for FC Internazionale Milano. The transfer was one of the first accomplishments of the new coach. It was also the first signing for the club during the January Transfer Window.
Ranocchia was signed to a four-year deal and is expected to replace Walter Samuel, who is out for the rest of the season with a knee injury. The news of Ranocchia's departure from Genova was confirmed by club President Enrico Preziosi.
The deal that was inked is worth 12 million euros, or $16 million in American dollars.
Andrea Ranocchia was born in Assisi in Perugia Province in 1988. He started early in his football career with Perugia and Arezzo before becoming professional with Arezzo.
He then transferred to Genova CFC where he played as a central defender. Ranocchia was also active in the Italian National Football/Soccer Team.
Ranocchia's record with Serie A has been 16 starts, two goals, no subs on, three subs off within 1,317 minutes played. He also received one yellow card in his career.
It is expected that he will be able to face the rest of Serie A as well as the UEFA Champions League.
